Developing “Starship Crafter”, an innovative GameTech product

MB Rysesoft has developed “Starship Crafter,” an innovative PC game in which the player takes on the role of a starship mechanic, repairing and building ships, fulfilling faction contracts, and managing a dynamic in game economy to pay off an inherited debt.

The project addresses a well known limitation in the games industry. Mainstream game engines do not provide built in, real time three dimensional navigation or believable large scale enemy behaviour. To close this gap, MB Rysesoft designed and implemented an original AI driven enemy drone swarm system using Unity ML-Agents. The system combines real time 3D pathfinding, customisable flocking behaviour, and behaviour tree based decision making, in which coordinated Scout, Fighter, Leader, and Guardian drones carry out adaptive raids that scale to the player’s defences.

Within the scope of the project, the game was finalised, optimised, and prepared for commercial release. As a result, “Starship Crafter” has been published on Steam and the Epic Games Store, the project was recognised as a winner of the GameTech accelerator programme, and it attracted an additional investment of €42,000 from GAMEBCN (Peninsula Corporate Innovation S.L.).

Funded by the European Union (NextGenerationEU).
